ROAD PROJECT DELIVERY UNDER TINUBU HAILED AS EXEMPLARY: MINISTER OF WORKS RESPONDS TO CRITICISM

In a recent press release from the Office of the Honourable Minister of Works, His Excellency, Sen. Engr Nweze David Umahi, CON, the ongoing road projects under the administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR have been lauded for their exceptional quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The Minister highlighted this during his inspection tour of various road projects across the country, emphasizing the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.Despite challenges such as inflation and supply chain disruptions driving up construction costs, the Minister affirmed that the Tinubu administration has maintained a commendable level of prudence and dedication to delivering projects promptly and to the highest standards. He cited examples of ongoing projects, including the Enugu – Port Harcourt dual carriageway rehabilitation, flyover bridge construction in Enugu State, and the East-West road reconstruction in Rivers State, as evidence of the government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure nationwide.However, the Minister also addressed criticism from former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar regarding the coastal highway project. He dismissed the criticism as a misrepresentation of facts aimed at misleading the public, asserting that the economic significance of the coastal highway extends far beyond regional connectivity, playing a crucial role in linking different parts of the country and facilitating trade and development.Regarding the pace of project execution, the Minister urged contractors to adhere to timelines, emphasizing the importance of timely completion to minimize disruptions and maximize benefits for citizens. He specifically called for increased speed in the East-West road project, warning that failure to meet deadlines could result in the allocation of portions of the project to other contractors to expedite progress.In conclusion, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth and national prosperity. He announced plans to provide detailed figures and economic analysis during an upcoming press conference in Lagos, scheduled for April 10th to 12th, to further demonstrate the administration’s prudence and effectiveness in delivering critical infrastructure projects.Hon.
