Security agents foil attempted jailbreak in Edo

Security operatives on Thursday foiled an attempt to break into the Maximum Correctional Centre popularly known as White House on Sapele Road in Benin, capital of Edo, Njenje Media  News reports.

The facility suffered jailbreak on October 19, 2020 during the #ENDSARS protest with Oko Medium Correctional Centre on Airport Road, Benin.

No fewer than 1,993 inmates, mostly condemned criminals, were freed during the attacks last year with most of them yet to be recaptured.

The two facilities were looted and destroyed by the attackers.

The white house was still being reconstructed when it was attacked again on Thursday.

But The Nation learnt security operatives repelled the attempt.

They blocked half of the ever-busy Sapele road beside the correctional centre, creating a girdlock, which forced many to trek long distances.
