The immediate past Governor of Ebonyi State and Senator representing Ebonyi South, Dave Umahi, recently appeared before the Senate for his ministerial role. Senator Umahi was the first among the 14 nominees listed for screening during the Tuesday session.

To accord respect and honour to former senators, members of the House of Representatives, and state Houses of Assembly, the Senate requires its members to ‘take a bow and leave’ when appearing in the Senate.

Senator Umahi thanked God for his life’s journey and Mr President for nominating him as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He also thanked the Senate President, Deputy Senate President, and the entire leadership of the Senate, as well as the 10th Senate for their cooperation and the working relationship he enjoyed.

The Senate President, GodsWill Akpabio, quoted Order 52 of the Senate Standing Orders which states that a Senator shall not read his speech except if he is moving for a bill or motion. Akpabio also said that when a senator appears before the Senate, he shall not read his achievement and when a senator is a principal officer, he shall appear, take a bow and resume back to his seat until the day he is sworn into office.

After taking his bow, Senator Umahi returned to his seat. The Senate has expressed its support for Senator Umahi and wished him success in his ministerial role.
