President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, signaling a fresh direction for the nation’s diplomatic front. Her appointment follows the exit of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down as he prepares for political activity ahead of the 2027 elections.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. With prior experience as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ojukwu is expected to step into the role with a firm grasp of Nigeria’s international priorities and relationships.
Alongside her appointment, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye has been nominated as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate approval. A seasoned diplomat, he brings more than thirty years of service, including time as Permanent Secretary in the ministry and postings across key global cities such as London, New Delhi, and Addis Ababa.
The presidency described the changes as part of a broader effort to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy direction. The new team has been tasked with advancing national interests, deepening economic diplomacy, and improving support systems for Nigerians living abroad.
This reshuffle comes at a time when Nigeria is seeking stronger global influence and increased foreign investment to support economic growth.
