Nigeria’s trade relationship with the United Kingdom has received a significant boost following a new policy granting duty free or reduced tariffs on more than 3,000 Nigerian exports. The development is expected to unlock fresh opportunities for businesses across agriculture, manufacturing, and emerging industries.

Officials say the move comes at a time when bilateral trade between both countries has climbed to about £8.1 billion, reflecting steady growth in economic ties. Analysts believe the policy could help Nigerian exporters scale production and compete more effectively in international markets, especially within Europe.

Authorities estimate that even a modest rise in exports between one and five percent could generate tens of millions of dollars in additional revenue annually. This is seen as a major incentive for local producers to expand operations and tap into global demand.

Beyond trade, stakeholders say the agreement also signals stronger cooperation in aviation and logistics, which are critical for moving goods efficiently. Overall, the initiative is being viewed as a strategic step toward diversifying Nigeria’s economy and reducing dependence on oil revenues.
