Nigerian Pop Singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu more known as Burna Boy has won the prestigious Grammy Awards for the first time after his back-to-back nominations, Njenje Media News reports.
Burna Boy’s album ‘Twice As Tall’ won the award for Best World Music Album at the 63rd edition of the Annual Grammy Awards beating Antibalas (FU Chronicles), Bebel Gilberto (Agora), Anoushka Shankar (Love Letters), and Tinariwen (Amadjar) to the coveted prize.
He emerged as the first contemporary Nigerian artiste to win at the Grammy Awards trouncing Femi and Seun Kuti in the race for the coveted award held annually in the US.
Another Nigerian superstar, Ayodeji Balogun more known as ‘Wizkid’ also won his first-ever Grammy Award for his feature in Beyonce Knowles ‘Brown Skin Girl’ off the 2019 album, ‘The Lion King’, at the 63rd Grammy Award. Though he is not the owner of the song, it would be in his name that he won the award alongside Beyonce, who owns the song and featured artists, Saint Jhn and Blue Ivy together with Jenn Nkiru, the directorof the Video.
