Nigeria has welcomed the rescue of all pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, bringing an end to a kidnapping ordeal that lasted more than seven weeks.

The successful rescue operation has generated widespread reactions across the country, with many Nigerians expressing relief and praising the efforts of security agencies. Several social media users also commended President Bola Tinubu while renewing calls for stricter measures against kidnappers to improve security.

The victims were abducted on May 15, 2026, after armed gunmen attacked schools in the Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota communities, including Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School.

During the attack, mathematics teacher Michael Oyedokun was killed, with a video of his beheading circulating widely and drawing national condemnation. The incident prompted protests, teacher strikes, and intensified concerns over rising insecurity, particularly the growing threat of kidnapping for ransom in the South-West.

The rescue marks the conclusion of a case that had dominated public discourse for weeks and renewed debate over the need for stronger security measures to protect schools and communities across Nigeria.
