A blind man who has never possessed a driving licence has been disqualified from driving after police caught him allegedly drunk behind the wheel following a 150 mile trip.
ITV News reported that Anthony Hall, 49, was stopped by police in the early hours of June 29 after officers spotted a vehicle swerving between lanes while travelling from Huddersfield to Carlisle.
When officers questioned him, Hall admitted he had consumed alcohol. A roadside breath test showed he was about three times above the legal drink drive limit. Prosecutors told the court that Hall, who is registered blind, said he completed the journey by following the lights of heavy goods vehicles.
Hall also admitted taking his partner’s car without her permission. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, drink driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
Although Hall has never held a driving licence, the court imposed an interim driving ban. He also faces a possible prison sentence of up to two years for the dangerous driving offence under UK law.
