Katsina United Football Club has announced the death of newly signed player Ozoh Chinedu following a medical emergency during a pre season friendly against Niger Tornadoes FC in Katsina.
The club said Chinedu died in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, after he was rushed to K Dara Specialist Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The incident reportedly occurred during the friendly match at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, where both teams were preparing for the upcoming football season.
According to Katsina United, the player was attended to immediately before being taken to the specialist hospital. However, efforts to save his life were unsuccessful.
Chinedu, who was previously associated with Kano Pillars FC, had recently joined Katsina United and was expected to play a role in the club’s campaign in the new season.
His death has thrown the club, teammates, coaching crew, management, supporters and the wider football community in Katsina State into mourning.
