A Nigerian soldier attached to the Nigerian Army Aviation Hangar in Minna, Niger State, has been arrested by military authorities after allegedly appearing in full military uniform on a TikTok livestream where he appealed to popular content creator King Pedro for financial assistance.
The incident occurred during a viral livestream on Saturday in early August 2026. During the broadcast, the soldier, who claimed to have served in the Nigerian Army for about five years and to be deployed in Niger State, asked for financial help. When King Pedro asked whether he had eaten, the soldier replied that he had not.
King Pedro criticised the soldier for wearing his military uniform while soliciting money online, describing the act as disrespectful to the institution. He warned that the soldier could face disciplinary measures, including possible detention or a court-martial, and advised that any personal appeals for assistance should be made in civilian clothing rather than in uniform.
Although attached to the Nigerian Army Aviation Hangar in Minna, the soldier was reportedly arrested at the 234 Battalion in Badagry, Lagos State, where he was staying at the time. In a video recorded after his arrest, he identified himself and confirmed both his attachment to the Minna unit and his presence in Badagry.
According to reports citing a senior military source, the arrest followed the widespread circulation of the livestream and King Pedro’s public criticism. Reports also indicated that the content creator had confronted another soldier in a separate livestream over similar conduct.
The incident has generated debate on social media, with some condemning the soldier’s actions as conduct capable of bringing the Nigerian Army into disrepute, while others argued that the episode highlighted concerns about the welfare and economic challenges facing military personnel.
As of the latest reports, military authorities have not publicly disclosed the soldier’s identity or announced any disciplinary action arising from the incident.
