The apex Igbo socio cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has distanced itself from a purported press statement circulating in the media over comments allegedly associated with former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr Ezechi Chukwu, the organisation said it had no connection with the controversial release, stressing that the views expressed were neither authorised nor representative of its official position.

Ohanaeze stated that under the leadership of its President General, Senator Azuta Mbata, it remains a non partisan body and would not allow itself to be used as a political platform for any individual or group.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide hereby categorically disassociates itself from the said statement in its entirety. The position expressed therein by these subversive elements does not represent the view, mandate, or official communication of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide,” the statement read.

The organisation further emphasised that it “is not and will never function as a political appendage, electoral proxy, or spokesperson for any political party or individual, regardless of affiliation or aspiration.”

Ohanaeze also criticised what it described as repeated attempts by certain persons to use its name for partisan purposes, personal benefit and political advantage.

It described such actions as “unfortunate, misleading and unacceptable” and advised the media and members of the public to ignore statements not issued through its recognised leadership structure.

The group reaffirmed that Prince Okey Nwadinobi remains the Deputy President General, while Emeka Sibeudu remains the Secretary General. It urged the public to rely only on verified communications from its official channels to avoid misinformation and further confusion.
