Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest for the presidency in the 2027 general elections, making the announcement during a massive PDP–APM Alliance rally in Ibadan.
The declaration, which attracted a large crowd of party supporters, political stakeholders, and loyalists, immediately sparked fresh conversations within the opposition camp ahead of the next election cycle.
The rally transformed into a major political show of strength as supporters turned out in large numbers to witness what many described as a defining moment in Makinde’s political career. Chants, party banners, and displays of solidarity filled the venue as the governor formally unveiled his presidential ambition.
Makinde’s entry into the race is expected to reshape internal discussions within the Peoples Democratic Party and among allied political groups currently exploring coalition arrangements ahead of 2027.
Political analysts say the declaration places the Oyo governor among the prominent early contenders in the opposition camp as consultations and strategic alignments continue across the country.
The PDP–APM Alliance gathering also served as a platform for opposition leaders to emphasize unity and cooperation ahead of future elections, with calls for stronger coordination among participating groups.
Supporters at the venue welcomed the announcement with excitement, describing it as a bold political step capable of energizing the opposition ahead of the next presidential contest.
More reactions are expected from political figures, party leaders, and rival camps as momentum gradually builds toward the 2027 general elections.
