Nigerian troops have raided an IPOB-linked criminal camp in Abator, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, recovering firearms, ammunition and materials suspected to be used in the production of improvised explosive devices.
The operation, conducted on October 1, followed the rescue of three abducted persons in the Osakwa General Area of Ihiala Local Government Area.
At about 5:30 a.m., troops of 185 Battalion, working with local security volunteers, launched a follow-up operation that involved crossing a river and advancing through difficult forest terrain.
The operation led to the arrest of a suspected member of the kidnapping syndicate identified as Sunday Obi.
Security personnel subsequently stormed the camp in Abator, where they recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition and other materials suspected to be connected to IED production.
