The South-West has emerged as the safest region in Nigeria based on Nigerians’ perception of security across states, according to July 2026 data published by StatiSense.
Six of the 12 states with the highest security perception scores are from the South-West, including Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Ondo and Oyo.
Lagos ranked second overall with a score of 48.3, while Ogun placed third with 46.5. Ekiti followed in fourth with 45.2, Osun fifth with 44.8, Ondo sixth with 43.6 and Oyo seventh with 42.9.
The Federal Capital Territory recorded the highest individual score at 52.1, ranking ahead of Lagos by 3.8 points.
Kwara, from the North-Central, ranked eighth with 41.3, followed by Delta and Edo from the South-South with 40.7 and 40.1 respectively. Akwa Ibom ranked 11th with 39.5, while Enugu was the only South-East state in the top 12, scoring 38.8.
Overall, the South-West accounted for half of the states listed, followed by the South-South with three, North-Central with two and South-East with one.

The figures were attributed to the NigeriaPolls Security Perception Index (SPI) for July 2026.
