Retired police officers on April 13, 2026, gathered at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja to demand the payment of their long overdue pensions and gratuities.
The pensioners, moving in solidarity, sang and marched through the premises as they expressed frustration over what they described as poor pension management and delayed benefits.
Tensions reportedly rose during the protest after an alleged attempt to intimidate one of the retirees by a senior officer. The group responded firmly, insisting they would not be silenced in their demand for what they are owed.
The retired officers maintained that their action was driven by hardship and neglect, stressing that they were only asking for their rightful entitlements.
The protest once again draws attention to long standing concerns over pension administration within the security sector, as calls for urgent reforms continue to grow.
