President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday said Nigeria’s development challenges are rooted in the failure of past administrations to embrace long term planning, noting that attempts to fund major projects with short term resources have consistently slowed progress. He made the remarks at the Presidential Villa while receiving a delegation from Enugu State led by Governor Peter Mbah.

He stressed that the absence of a clear, sustained national outlook had hindered growth over the years, but expressed optimism that the country is now on a more stable path. The President commended Mbah’s leadership, pointing to improvements in security, infrastructure, education, and healthcare as evidence that reforms are delivering tangible results.

President Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with state governments to drive development, highlighting ongoing projects such as rail expansion and power sector reforms. He emphasised that meaningful progress requires collective action across all levels of government and urged leaders to extend development efforts to the grassroots.

In his remarks, Mbah appreciated federal support for Enugu, citing infrastructure upgrades, improved connectivity, and better security outcomes, while reaffirming the state’s backing for the President’s agenda.
