The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the interception of a shipment of the amphetamine based drug, Captagon, in Kwara State.
Captagon, a highly addictive stimulant widely abused in parts of the Middle East, is known to cause prolonged alertness, euphoria and a diminished sense of fear. Authorities have repeatedly linked its use to criminal syndicates and insurgent activities.
The agency said the seizure followed an earlier drug bust at the Apapa seaport in Lagos, underscoring a broader crackdown on illicit trafficking routes.
This was disclosed in a statement by the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
According to the statement, operatives on patrol along Bode Saadu Road on April 21, 2026, intercepted a 33 year old passenger, Nasiru Mu’azu, travelling in a trailer. A search led to the discovery of 10 packs of Captagon, totaling 10,000 pills, along with nine packets of Tapentadol 250mg.
In a separate operation at the same location on April 24, NDLEA officers intercepted another trailer, uncovering a large cache of drugs hidden in a false compartment. Recovered items included 155,900 capsules of tramadol, 6,000 ampoules of tramadol injection, 3,000 tablets of co codamol and 9,000 tablets of bromazepam. A 24 year old suspect, Aminu Isah, was arrested in connection with the seizure.
