An unidentified woman has been found dead within a church premises in the Obelewo area of Osogbo, Osun State, with her left wrist reportedly severed.
The Nigeria Police Force said detectives visited the scene after the woman’s body was discovered.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, said preliminary investigations indicated that the woman had allegedly been slaughtered, while her left wrist was cut off and taken away by unidentified persons.
The police said the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, as well as the motive for the killing, had yet to be established.
He said, “The investigations revealed that the deceased was slaughtered and her left wrist severed and taken away by unknown persons.”
Iniedu said efforts were underway to identify the deceased and determine the circumstances that led to her death.
He added that the body had been transferred to a hospital for further examination.
“The corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy,” he revealed.
The police spokesperson also said the State Command Investigation Department had commenced an investigation into the incident.
