A former Senior Special Assistant to the ex Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, making serious allegations against two senior police officers he identified as twin brothers, CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba.

In the petition, Musa Muhammad Kamarawa accused the officers of partial investigation, extortion, illegal search of his residence, and the alleged seizure of his money, property, and contract materials. He also claimed he was coerced into silence during his detention.

Kamarawa alleged that during interrogation in 2021, he was pressured not to disclose his professional and political connections, including his association with former Governor Bello Matawalle, now Minister of State for Defence, and former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Bafarawa. He further alleged that he was threatened and intimidated while in custody, including claims referencing past high profile killings.

He also accused the officers of extorting N3.6 million from his company account at a commercial bank while he was detained. According to him, he was compelled to issue a cheque which was subsequently withdrawn and handed over to the officers. He added that parts of the funds were allegedly routed through intermediaries connected to his family.

The petitioner further alleged that building materials linked to a Sokoto State Government contract awarded to him were removed from storage during his detention. He claimed the materials were later shared and some were recorded as police exhibits.

On the search of his residence, Kamarawa stated that the operation was carried out without a valid warrant and that items including cash and gold were taken. He questioned the authenticity of the search warrant presented, alleging inconsistencies in dates and signatures.

He also claimed that he is being continuously harassed for refusing demands allegedly made by the officers for a share of seized property and for attempting to speak out about his treatment.

Kamarawa is urging the Inspector General of Police to order a full and impartial investigation into the allegations, stating that such action is necessary to restore public confidence in the police and ensure accountability within the force.

The Nigeria Police Force has not yet issued an official response to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
