President Bola Tinubu and Siminalayi Fubara shake hands

A former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus and members of the Presidential Campaign Council of the party for the 2023 general elections in Rivers State have declared their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
A former Minister of Transportation and the Director-General, PDP-PCC Rivers State, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, confirmed the declaration while addressing newsmen at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

With this declaration, the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) appear to be moving towards an alliance in Rivers State.
Former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Austin Opara; former governor of Rivers State, Celestine Omehia and former deputy governor of the state, Tele Ikuru were all present at the press briefing.
Also in attentandance at the briefing were Senator Lee Maeba and former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Gabriel Pidomson among others.

The council gave its support to the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 election.
President Tinubu earlier this year waded into the feud between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Fubara thereafter said that he was willing and ready to give up his office for peace to reign in Rivers State because no sacrifice will be too big to achieve that.

Fubara said this in an exclusive interview with Africa Independent Television (AIT), even as he believes that Rivers State is bigger than anyone, including himself.
He further said that he would always continue to maintain his unwavering love for peace and respect for the rule of law and justice.
“No sacrifice will be too big for me to pay for the success of this administration and the reason is very simple, it is not political love,” Fubara said.

“It is not because I want to gain any favour from anybody, my interest and love for our dear state is genuine.
“I am not trying to say I want to be one man that will be there to decide the fate of all, no but let Rivers State remain.”
The trouble between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike is well-documented with the battle almost leading to the proposed impeachment of the former.
