President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda 76, has been declared the winner of Uganda’s Presidential election winning his sixth term in office, Njenje Media News reports.

Uganda Electoral Commission, while announcing the results on Saturday January 16, said that Museveni received 58% of votes and Bobby Wine 34%, and voter turnout was 52%.

 Election Commission Chairman, Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama said;

“The electoral commission declares Yoweri Museveni… elected President of the Republic of Uganda,”

Byabakama urged the population to “remain calm and accept the outcome of these elections” while reminding those celebrating to be mindful of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 Yoweri Museveni has now defeated his closest challenger, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi more known as Bobby Wine, a 38-year-old former singer who had earlier declared himself the winner of the election to the polls but alleged irregularities and a plot to deny him his victory.

Njenje Media News reports that President Yoweri Museveni has been in power since 1986 and this will be the 6th time he would be standing for election.
