There is growing anxiety within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following the abrupt cancellation of a major opposition coalition event scheduled to unveil the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its unified political platform.

The event, initially set to hold at the Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro, Abuja, was called off at the last minute, with the hotel management citing an “internal compliance matter.”

Njenje Media News reports that credible sources within the hospitality industry revealed that the cancellation was triggered by intense pressure from APC operatives who allegedly feared the implications of a united opposition front. The hotel’s official communication, however, avoided political references, stating only that it could not proceed with the event due to newly discovered compliance issues.

Njenje Media News further reports that the event was fully paid for, and contractual agreements had been finalised. In response, Salihu Lukman, representing People and Passion Consult Ltd, issued a stern protest letter to the hotel, stating that “your management has no right to unilaterally sabotage a contract validly and legally agreed to and fully paid for.” He insisted that the hotel must meet its contractual obligations without negotiation.

Veteran journalist and political leader Dele Momodu also weighed in, describing the cancellation as part of a broader campaign of opposition intimidation. In a statement covered by Njenje Media News, Momodu said, “This is not just about a venue. It is about the growing climate of fear, where private institutions are being pressured to suppress democratic activities.”

Despite the disruption, Njenje Media News confirms that the coalition has relocated the unveiling to the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, maintaining the momentum of the highly anticipated event. The new opposition alliance is backed by prominent figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal, Rotimi Amaechi, and Sule Lamido — representing a rare coalition of political heavyweights from different regions and former parties.

Njenje Media News reports that this event signals a major shift in the political narrative ahead of the 2027 elections. The attempted obstruction, they say, has only amplified public interest in the new opposition movement, with many viewing it as a sign that the ruling party is rattled by the emerging threat.

Political analysts interviewed by Njenje Media described the cancellation as a tactical blunder that could backfire, fueling sympathy for the opposition and raising concerns about the erosion of democratic freedoms under the current administration.

Njenje Media News continues to monitor developments around this story and the broader implications for Nigeria’s 2027 political landscape.
