The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday distanced himself from the controversy over the screening of aspirants by the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, saying the internal affairs of the party do not concern him as he is not a member.
Speaking to journalists during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in the FCT ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office, Wike said he had no basis to comment on the APC process.
“I am not a member of the APC, so I do not know what is happening in their screening. Even if they release the results, why should I comment on it? I do not know the reasons behind their decisions,” he said.
He stressed that he only speaks on matters within his responsibility, adding that he would not involve himself in issues outside his jurisdiction.
“What concerns me is what I will talk about, not what does not concern me. I am not a native doctor, neither am I a prophet,” he said.
On the evolving political alignments in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections, Wike noted that his approach would be driven by practical considerations rather than strict party loyalty.
“That is the idea behind the rainbow coalition in Rivers State. We will assess where we have strength, compare notes, and make decisions based on that,” he said.
