Fresh political realignments may be on the horizon as former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso are reportedly set to join the National Democratic Congress in the coming days.

The update came from Kwankwasiyya movement through its spokesperson, Habibu Mohammed, who disclosed that talks with the NDC have reached an advanced stage, with only final details left to be resolved.

According to him, both politicians, along with other key figures, could formalize their move as early as next week after receiving backing from influential stakeholders.

He noted that the decision followed extensive consultations, including a meeting with representatives from all 44 local government areas in Kano, where there was broad agreement to proceed with the switch.

A key driver behind the planned defection is the lingering crisis within the African Democratic Congress. Ongoing legal disputes and leadership uncertainty have reportedly raised doubts about the party’s readiness for the 2027 elections.

Mohammed explained that many stakeholders believe staying in a party caught in prolonged litigation could stall political momentum, making the search for a more stable platform necessary.

If finalized, the move could reshape the opposition landscape, as major political actors begin repositioning ahead of the next general election cycle.
