During a recent event at Cambridge University, organized by the Anglia Ruskin University Student Association and the Cambridge University Society, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 election, delivered a speech on “African Leadership’s Role in Fostering Global Citizenship and Social Responsibility.”

Mr. Obi emphasized the critical role of leaders at this historical crossroads in shaping Africa’s destiny and making substantial contributions to worldwide advancement. He highlighted that leadership extends beyond national interests to global responsibilities.

He defined global citizenship as an actionable concept that acknowledges our shared humanity, transcending geographical, cultural, and ideological divides. He urged African leaders to embrace this concept by promoting inclusivity, tolerance, and collaboration globally.

Mr Obi pointed out the importance of investing in education, healthcare, and infrastructure as key to sustainable development and societal advancement. By equipping citizens with the necessary resources, leaders can fulfil their responsibilities and aid in creating a more just and prosperous global community.

In a call to action, Mr Obi inspired students—both Nigerian and international—to remain hopeful and committed to Nigeria’s progress, advocating for the adoption of international best practices to ensure the nation’s success.

The event concluded with a photo session, capturing moments with the students and event Organizers.
