The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi, who confirmed the arrest at the Command’s first-quarter press briefing 2025, held on Wednesday evening in Asaba, the state capital, said a total of 13 kidnapped victims were rescued while 14 suspected stolen vehicles were recovered during the period.
Giving comprehensive breakdown of the arrest, Abaniwonda said the Command nabbed 35 suspects linked to armed robbery, 24 suspected kidnappers, 21 murder suspects, 22 cultists, and four in connection with rape and defilement cases.
According to the Police boss, the arrests were part of the Command’s strategic and intelligence-driven approach to chase out the criminal elements and restore public safety across the state.
He explained that “a total of 53 weapons were confiscated, including 11 AK-47 rifles, one G-3 rifle, nine Beretta pistols, 19 single-barrel and cut-to-size guns, and 13 pump-action guns.
“The police also seized 5,612 rounds of live ammunition and cartridges of various calibre during various operations, and also recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition.
“The operations equally led to the seizure of assorted illicit drugs and substances, which posed a threat to youth and community safety.”
At the briefing, Olufemi Abaniwonda applauded other sister security agencies, the vigilante and other local communities for their unwavering support and collaboration.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, saying, “Security is everyone’s business. If you see something, say something.”
