Tinubu re-appoints NAFDAC DG, names new NCDC head

President, Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, approved the appointment of Dr Mansur Kabir as chairman of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and re-appointed Professor Moji Adeyeye as the Chief Executive Officer.
Adeyeye was first appointed by the former President, Major-General Mohammadu Buhari (Rtd.) in 2017 and re-appointed for a second term of five years in December 2022.
The announcement of the appointments was made known in a statement titled, ‘President Tinubu approves leadership changes in health and social welfare sector’ and signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
Also, a former Commissioner for Health in Lagos, Dr Olajide Idris, was announced as the new CEO of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, to replace Prof Ifedayo Adetifa, and assume office on February 19.
Tinubu also approved the appointments and reappointments of Board Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers for eight agencies under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The Board Chairperson and the CEO of the National Blood Service Commission are Prof Abba Zubairu and Dr Saleh Yuguda, respectively.
Also, the Board Chairperson and CEO of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria are Prof Afolabi Lesi and Dr Fatima Kyari.
Meanwhile, the Board Chairperson and CEO of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria are Wasilat Giwa and Ibrahim Ahmed.
Dr Babajide Salako and Dr Tosan Erhabor were appointed as the Board Chairperson and CEO of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, respectively.
Also, Prof Adamu Bakari was appointed as the Chief Medical Director/CEO of the Moddibo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola and Prof Reuben Eifediyi as the Chief Medical Director/CEO of the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Auchi, Edo State.
Ngelale said the appointments are “in furtherance of his determination to bring world-class standards to Nigerian public health administration and to manifest his commitment to deliver affordable and quality care to all Nigerians under governance and regulatory frameworks commensurate with international best practice.”
He added that the President expected the new leadership to raise the standards of healthcare service delivery for the exclusive benefit of Nigerians.
He noted that Tinubu anticipated “The immediate and effective implementation of new policy frameworks to reposition the sector under the able leadership of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Muhammad Pate.”
