The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 32-year-old Sulaiman Danwawu, a notorious drug dealer from Tudun Yola Quarters.

Danwawu, previously charged in 2022 for possessing 500 cartons of suspected Tramadol, was re-arrested on charges of possessing illicit drugs, marking another significant step in the police’s ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the city.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed the arrest during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano on Friday. He explained that between April 23 and May 9, 2025, the Command had made several arrests of individuals linked to a variety of crimes, including armed robbery, drug trafficking, cattle rustling, fraud, theft, and thuggery.
In one of the operations, the police apprehended a suspected armed robber in possession of two Beretta pistols and ten rounds of live ammunition. Bakori stressed that these arrests were part of the broader strategy directed by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to implement modern, result-oriented crime prevention techniques.
The Commissioner outlined a variety of items recovered during the operations, including firearms, illicit drugs, vehicles, counterfeit currency, livestock, mobile phones, and household goods.
He stressed that these achievements demonstrated the Command’s effective approach to addressing drug abuse and its connection to violent crimes such as armed robbery and thuggery.
“These achievements are testaments to the fact that the strategies employed are working. We have significantly reduced incidences of phone snatching, thuggery, and car theft,” Bakori said, adding that the police had been able to tackle several key crime areas.
The Commissioner also reassured the public of the Command’s continued commitment to maintaining peace and security in Kano. He called on residents to continue supporting the police by providing credible intelligence to help prevent crime.
Bakori also praised the support from both the media and the law-abiding people of Kano, stressing that their cooperation is vital in keeping the state safe. He outlined the strategies that have contributed to the Command’s recent successes, including 24-hour visibility patrols, operational sectorization, community policing, intelligence-driven raids, and continuous officer training to ensure professionalism and respect for human rights.
“These strategic interventions have resulted in tremendous successes in recent weeks,” Bakori said.
