Abuja, January 2, 2025 — Former presidential candidate and advocate for social reform, Peter Obi, marked the beginning of 2025 with a compassionate outreach to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Durumi, Abuja. Following a crossover vigil and early morning mass, Obi arrived at the camp at 7:30 a.m. on January 1st to spend time with residents facing significant challenges.

During the visit, Peter Obi provided financial support to the camp’s inhabitants and pledged to do more to alleviate their struggles. He described the visit as part of his New Year engagements, emphasizing the importance of connecting directly with those most affected by displacement.

“This visit offered me the opportunity to listen to their stories and witness their resilience despite the harsh realities they face. Their strength inspires me to continue advocating for inclusive policies that address the root causes of displacement and improve their living conditions,” Obi said.

The visit underscored the plight of thousands of internally displaced persons in Nigeria, many of whom face limited access to basic necessities such as shelter, healthcare, and education. Obi’s interaction with the residents called attention to the urgent need for practical, sustainable solutions that restore dignity and hope to the most vulnerable.

“A new Nigeria is POssible,” he reiterated, as he expressed his commitment to pursuing policies that address inequality and foster a better quality of life for all Nigerians.

Peter Obi’s visit to the Durumi IDP camp demonstrates a compassionate approach to leadership and underscores the critical need for collective efforts to address the ongoing humanitarian challenges in Nigeria.
