Peter Ameh leaves Labour Party

High Chief Peter Ameh, a former National Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and ex presidential candidate, has officially resigned from the Labour Party.
In a resignation letter addressed to the party chairman in Ogugu Ward 1, Olamaboro Local Government Area, Kogi State, Ameh said the decision followed “careful reflection” and was taken “in the overriding interest of our nation’s progress and the continued stability of our democracy.”
He expressed appreciation to the party leadership and members across the country.
“I wish to express my profound gratitude to you and all members of the Labour Party in Olamaboro and Nigeria at large for their support, trust, and cooperation I received during my time in the party,” he wrote.
Ameh said his involvement in the party was driven by belief in its ideology and personal ties to its leadership in the past.
“My association with the Labour Party was rooted in my belief in its social democratic ideals,” he stated, adding that it was strengthened by his relationship with the late former National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam.
He described Abdulsalam as a key influence in his political journey, saying, “I remain deeply honoured to have walked part of this journey in his memory.”
The former IPAC chairman also referenced his long involvement in Nigeria’s political space, noting his previous leadership roles and commitment to multi party democracy.
“As someone who has served over the years in different leadership capacities, including as former National Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) and former National Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), my faith in the prospect of our multi party democratic system remains unflinching,” he said.
Ameh stressed that his resignation was not driven by conflict or personal ambition.
“My decision is not borne out of anger or personal interest, but from my conviction that political institutions must be built on trust, respect for agreements, institutional integrity,” he stated.
He added that political conduct must align with words and actions, saying “our words both in private and public must reflect our actions and decisions.”
Concluding his letter, Ameh thanked party members and wished the Labour Party success going forward.
“I sincerely appreciate all party members, supporters, and associates who have shown goodwill and commitment over the years,” he wrote.
He added, “I also wish the National Working Committee and members of the Labour Party nationwide success in their future endeavours and in their continued efforts toward national development.”
