In the aftermath of the restriction of Twitter operations in Nigeria, the Nigerian government has said it would prosecute anyone who doesn’t align with the new directive, Njenje Media News reports.

Some Nigerians have found a way round the ban with the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPN), a software that allows users to change the Internet Protocol (IP) address and tweak it out of Nigeria, in the process being able to access the micro-blogging platform.

In a statement by Umar Gwandu, the Special Assistant on Media and Public relations, office of the country’s Justice Minister, offenders, apparently referring to those who may have bypassed the system would be prosecuted without further delay.

Read the statement below:

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN has directed for the immediate prosecution of offenders of the Federal Government ban on Twitter operations in Nigeria.

Malami directed the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF) at the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, to swing into action and commence in earnest the process of prosecution of violators of the Federal Government De-activation of opetations of Twitter in Nigeria.

Malami directed the DPPF to liaise with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, National Communication Communication (NCC), and other relevant government agencies to ensure the speedy prosecution of offenders without any further delay.
