Iran has claimed it launched attacks on US military positions across six Arab countries following recent American strikes on its territory, while Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Jordan said their air defence systems intercepted Iranian missiles and drones targeting their territories.
According to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), its Aerospace Force struck a US military base in Kuwait as part of the 12th phase of its military operation, the semi official Mehr News Agency reported.
The IRGC said it targeted a missile defence detection and tracking radar, several weapons storage facilities, two High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers and missiles intended for the system.
It further claimed the attack sparked a major fire at the base.
The IRGC said the operation was retaliation for recent US strikes, which it alleged hit civilian facilities, telecommunications infrastructure, railway workers and vehicles, resulting in casualties.
Kuwait
The Kuwaiti military said several of its soldiers were injured after Iranian drones targeted multiple military facilities and bases across the country, although it did not specify the number of casualties or identify the affected locations.
Earlier, the army said its air defence systems successfully intercepted Iranian missiles and drones aimed at the country.
Oman
In Oman, the IRGC said its naval forces struck radar installations, including a US air control radar, according to the ISNA news agency.
Quoting an IRGC statement, ISNA reported that a naval control radar on the Salameh Rocks and a US air control radar in Oman’s Ghanem region were targeted before dawn. The IRGC claimed both installations were destroyed.
Syria
The IRGC also claimed its Aerospace Force attacked a US special operations command centre in Syria’s Al Tanf region, according to Fars News Agency.
It alleged the strike destroyed a radar system and several special operations helicopters, while also claiming that several US troops were captured during the operation.
Syrian authorities did not immediately comment on the claim.
However, a Syrian military source rejected the allegation, telling AFP: “We deny any Iranian bombardment targeting the Al-Tanf area,” while speaking on condition of anonymity. US forces have previously said they withdrew from the base earlier this year.
Jordan
Jordan said its air defence systems intercepted and shot down three Iranian missiles that entered its airspace, with no casualties reported, according to the state run Petra news agency.
Meanwhile, the IRGC said it launched a two phase operation against US fighter jets and aerial refuelling aircraft stationed in Jordan using several ballistic missiles and a large number of drones, according to the official IRNA news agency.
Qatar
Qatar’s armed forces said they intercepted several aerial attacks targeting the country, according to the defence ministry. The interior ministry said one child was injured by falling shrapnel during the interception operations.
The IRGC claimed it attacked the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, saying it destroyed a long range radar system and several US aerial refuelling aircraft.
Bahrain
Iran’s military also said it carried out a drone strike against facilities used by US military aircraft at Al Sakhir Air Base in Bahrain, claiming it struck areas where US military helicopters and P-8 maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft were stationed.
Bahrain’s defence force said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed “several treacherous Iranian aerial attacks.”
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Thursday that it had completed another round of offensive strikes against Iran, marking the sixth consecutive night of military operations targeting Iranian military assets, mainly in southern Iran.
Regional tensions around the Strait of Hormuz have continued to rise as the United States and Iran exchange attacks despite a Pakistan brokered memorandum of understanding signed last month to end hostilities and pursue a lasting peace agreement.
